HP has just released a convertible laptop with a capacitive 12.1-inch that brings in multi-touch functionality and complemented by HP's own Mediasmart software suite, all for a mere £799.
The laptop will be able to distinguish between voluntary pinching with two fingers and any accidental input; alternatively, you will be able to use the bundled stylus to enter data.
As Trustedreviews and Stuff.TV rightly point out, although HP claims that it is the "world's first multitouch enabled consumer laptop", the Dell Latitude XT was actually the first one on the market.
Surprisingly enough, the device is build around a 2.4GHz AMD Dual Core Turion ZM-86 processor, flanked by an Integrated Radeon HD3200 graphics module plus at least 2GB RAM (up to 8GB) and 400GB or more hard disk space.
This is a sub-laptop, and it is quite surprising to to find any optical drive (that could add weight and decrease battery life); the laptop also comes with a webcam and a pair of microphones.
The convertible laptop/tablet PC will be available as from January 2009 and should be compatible with Windows 7.
